Math 7 students will develop mathematical knowledge and skills in a way that provides satisfaction and enjoyment. Students are encouraged to apply mathematics in everyday situations and develop an understanding of the part which mathematics plays in the world around them. Topics covered in this course include number sense, algebraic reasoning, measurements, geometric properties, and handling data. These five content areas are underpinned by problem-solving, which provides a structure for the applications of mathematical skills. Course concepts are reinforced through the use of mental math and estimation to determine the validity of a solution. Learning is facilitated by providing relevant, student-centred mathematical experiences that include modelling, the use of manipulatives and graphic representations, and technology integration in ways that help students to increasingly make connections between mathematics and other disciplines.
